Kerala - Kodanad

Kodanad is one of the beautiful places in Kerala located in the Southern banks of Periyar river. It is one among the elephant training centers other than Muthanga of Wayanad and Konni of Pathnamthitta. The place is also situated near the enchanting high ranges of Perumbavoor. Usually the elephants which are captured from the Perumbavoor forest and Malayatoor forest are trained in these centers. Kodanad is now developing as an Eco-tourism hotspot with trekking facilities etc.

Kodanad is 30 kms away from Eranakulam. The nearest railway station available is Aluva railway station which is 28 kms west of Kodanad. One can approach Kodanad by road through Perumbavoor-Kodanad route and bus service is always available. Foreign tourists will have to land of Nedumbasseri(Kochi) International Airport and have to travel 65 kms roadway. Tourist taxi services are available from Kochi to Kodanad.

Tourist Attractions in Kodanad:

		The main attraction in Kodanad is its Elephant training center. The elephants are trained for mainly elephant safaris. These Safaris are available in cheap rates and this will be good opportunity for the tourists to be on the back of the largest land animal and this will surely be a thrilling experience. The grooming of these elephants are carried out in a place known as Punnathur Kotta which is near to Kodanad. If you visit this place, you can have a close look to the training practices of these
elephants. There is also a mini zoo in Kodanad which include some of the rare wild creatures of Kodanad forests and malayatoor forest. Kaprikad is another famous picnic spot near Kodanad.
